The Order of Mass or Ordinary are those parts of the liturgy which are unchanging in each celebration. They are combined with the Proper — texts which are specific to the day.

In September 2011 the Order of Mass from the new translation of the Roman Missal will be used in England and Wales. The following table shows which texts are Ordinary and which are Proper.

  • [ ] = texts which are not proclaimed or prayed at every Mass — but are included on Sundays and Solemnities. On Feasts the Gloria is sung but there is not a Second Reading or Profession of Faith — unless it is a Feast of the Lord (e.g. Presentation of the Lord) which falls on a Sunday.
  • ( ) = elements in the celebration of Mass which are not found in Missal or Lectionary. (The Missal does offer model General Intercessions)
